Today (well, actually this whole weekend) I'm out of town to help some friends out with their Passover Seder (the reason I'm waiting to respond to all your comments and emails).
But I really felt the urge on my heart to post you these words. You can read them, or you don't have to but I find that every time I read or sing them it's like a brick has been lifted off my soul and I can finally tell what I really feel about the cross, about the Man who was God who died on it, and of the unfathomable agony of it all.
This is a song by Sovereign Grace, I couldn't find the music to post but the words are what really matter,
The Look
I saw one hanging on a tree
In agony and blood
Who fixed His loving eyes on me
As near His cross I stood
And never till my dying breath
Will I forget that look
It seemed to charge me with His death
Though not a word He spoke
My conscience felt and owned the guilt
And plunged me in despair
I saw my sins His blood had spilt
And helped to nail Him there
But with a second look He said
“I freely all forgive
This blood is for your ransom paid
I died that you might live”
(this is the part when my hands fall to my sides and I just feel like weeping - and I'm not ashamed of that)
Forever etched upon my mind (forever, forever)
Is the look of Him who died
The Lamb I crucified ( I, the Lame I crucified)
And now my life will sing the praise
Of pure atoning grace
That looked on me and gladly took my place
Thus while His death my sin displays
For all the world to view
Such is the mystery of grace
It seals my pardon too
With pleasing grief and mournful joy (is not this line so true)
My spirit now is filled
That I should such a life destroy
Yet live by Him I killed (killed... )
Remember.
Remember...today... tomorrow and this Sunday. Whatever you do - remember the look.
Blessings on you all,
-L
