Earlier I was not able to explain what we were doing. So now with a free moment(or two) on my hands I'll try and tell y'all.
Most of you may have seen on Jare's and my profile that it says we are pyrotechnics's in training.
First how many know what that means?
If you don't know, it means that we deal with fireworks(plus other cool explosives). =D
Here is a bio of what a pyro is:
A pyrotechnician is an individual responsible for the safe storage, handling, and functioning of pyrotechnics and pyrotechnic devices. Although the term is generally used in reference to individuals who operate pyrotechnics in the entertainment industry, it can include all individuals who regularly handle explosives *thumbs up*. For the purposes of disambiguation, however, individuals who handle more powerful materials for commercial, demolition, or military applications are generally referred to as explosive technicians.
This is what's on their site that I thought was great,
In this day and age, entering into the professional field of fireworks is much more complex then in the past. The fireworks industry is heavily regulated by many federal, state, and local agencies.
Here are some items to consider:
· You must be at least 18 years of age, (some states require 21 years of age), to participate on a display fireworks crew. (And most of you know myself, nor Jare are 18, thats why were training)
· You must be at least 21 years old to be a Display Operator in charge.
· You should have a true passion for fireworks.
· You cannot be afraid of hard work. (there is a lot of it)
· Find a reputable fireworks display company, and attend a beginners training class.
· You will be asked to submit to criminal background checks and alcohol and drug testing.
· You will be subject to classroom training as well as hands on training out in the field
· You will be required to work as an apprentice on at least 3 to 6 outdoor fireworks shows and will be observed and evaluated on your performance and safety practices.
· You will work on several shows as an assistant to the Display Operator in charge, once you have gained enough experience and understand all of the regulations, you may then be ready to take on your own show.
· This process could take 1 to 3 years, depending on how many shows you participate on, how quickly you become proficient and the rules of the pyrotechnic company. (my dad took a class 6 years ago, it only took him 1 year)
· A Display Operator, may also be required to get a CDL (commercial driver license) with a hazmat endorsement which will require classroom training, driver training, more criminal background and drug and alcohol testing.
Neat huh?
Now a little of what we did today at the lake.
We actually spent the night last night(it was just our family, dad, Jare, myself,Ben and Roo). We did this so Ben and Roo could spend some time out there, they are not really ready yet. And it was also a chance for me to camp. To night though I thought I'd give the other guys a chance, see as my dad didn't think it would be very good for a Elders daughter to be the only girl camping in one tent with 7 other guys(I think I agree with him =)
To day though we set up and nailed together all the racks, heres what a rack looks like,
Hope you could read that. (thank you Emily for telling me how to do these!)
Then because we were all so hot, we jumped in the lake and play in it for 2 hours, THEN we got out and found leaches on us!!
Then goodness I only had one on my heal, Nate, friend who helps out every year had them on his feet, legs, and hands. He was the one who yelled, "I think I just saw a leach!" Then he looked for more in the silt.
But they were small(and green =P). *grossgrossgrossgrossgross*

But now its time for bed, I can't keep my eyes open, I'm so very sorry for any bad grammer or miss spelled words. This screen is starting to get blurrry, I woke up at 5:oo AM. To Chows. And Loud male frogs. And Ben asking what time it was.

I knew what pyro-whatever was, but this post was cool! I love fireworks, I think they are so beautiful, and it must be awesome to create them!
Your Welcome! It's so cool that y'all are going to be(hopefully)pyrotechnicians!
PS I'm now a follower of y'alls blog.
Hey Lib- Your pyro tee was awesome and what I saw of the 'works was fab. Glad we're all in this together :-)
Hey Peach
TO Peach, I think I'll post a pic later of my shirt, I'm wearing it now and it smells of smoke, black powder and brunt copper,*smiles*. But I'm really glad you liked the show!
Thanks Will again for helping out with everything. Tell Sara too 'k?
And everyone, my sister Keilah(who has the photo blog on the sidebar) took tons of really cool pictures of the show, and I think Will's dad filmed the finale(the biggest part of the show). (so in other words you may get to see some of it!)
I'm still really tired, even though I just woke up, and its 10:30 AM =/
oops

PS
On the 1st, my dad, Jare, Ben, Roo and Eej got in a car crash. They all walked away from it, but the car my dad was driving was my Mumu's(His mom's) car. The car was totaled-big time. The air bags and everything went off.
But could you all pray for my brothers and dad?
It was really hard for them to get to sleep the first few nights from just remembering how it happened. They are still really shock over it. And all they got were scraps and bruises.
Thanks for any prays you give.
